| P1727 | DQ200 | Clutch adaptation — value out of range | Clutch faults | Review |
DescriptionThe DQ200 transmission control unit stores P1727 when it detects the following condition: Clutch adaptation — value out of range. A stored code does not by itself prove that a part has failed. Before replacing anything, check the live data, wiring, connectors, power supply and fluid condition, and confirm the fault on the vehicle. Symptoms
Possible causes
This code is documented but not independently confirmed. Confirm it against the specific vehicle before ordering any part.

A stored code does not by itself prove that a part has failed. Before replacing anything, check the live data, wiring, connectors, power supply and fluid condition, and confirm the fault on the vehicle. Symptoms
Possible causes

Fault codes by transmission family
Each family has its own set of documented codes. Open a family to see its codes, categories and repair links.
Dry-clutch family; fault codes often relate to the mechatronic accumulator, clutch adaptation and the 6th/Reverse shift fork.
Wet-clutch family; fault codes commonly involve hydraulic control, speed sensors and gear engagement.
Wet-clutch family; fault codes frequently concern hydraulic control and sensor behaviour.
Wet-clutch family; fault codes often involve hydraulic control, sensor behaviour and the TCU.
Hybrid DSG family; fault codes can involve hydraulic control and the hybrid control interface.
High-torque wet-clutch family; fault codes often relate to hydraulic control, clutch cooling and the mechatronic unit.
Fault-code categories
Codes are grouped by the system or component they relate to. Counts show how many codes fall into each category.
Clutch faults (50)
The fault concerns clutch control: engagement, adaptation, torque limitation or clutch temperature. The control unit compares the commanded clutch position or pressure with the measured value and stores the code when the difference or the adapted value leaves the permitted range.
Valve / solenoid electrical (45)
The fault is electrical: the control unit monitors the current and resistance of each solenoid and pressure control valve, and stores the code when it detects an open circuit, a short circuit or a control current outside the expected range.
Hydraulic pressure (41)
The fault concerns the hydraulic supply of the mechatronic unit. The control unit compares the required system pressure with the measured pressure and stores the code when the pressure is too low, too high, builds up too slowly, or the pump runs outside its normal operating time.
Gear selection (37)
The fault concerns engaging a gear. The gear selector moves the shift fork hydraulically and a travel sensor reports its position. The code is stored when the gear cannot be engaged, the position does not match the command, or the movement takes too long.
Gear ratio / gear loss (31)
This is a mechanical plausibility check: the control unit compares the input and output shaft speeds with the ratio expected for the selected gear. The code is stored when the calculated ratio does not match or a gear drops out unexpectedly.
Speed sensor (13)
The fault concerns a speed signal. The control unit needs the input (clutch/turbine) and output shaft speeds to control shifts and clutch slip, and stores the code when a signal is missing, implausible or electrically faulty.
Internal control unit (TCU) (12)
The fault originates in the transmission control electronics integrated into the mechatronic unit. The unit's self-diagnosis has detected an internal error, an implausible internal value or a software problem.
Communication (7)
The fault concerns data communication between the transmission control unit and other control units on the powertrain CAN bus. The code is stored when messages are missing or corrupted, or the bus hardware reports an error.
Pressure sensor (6)
The fault concerns a pressure sensor or pressure switch in the transmission. The control unit uses these signals for clutch and system pressure control, and stores the code when the signal is out of range, too low or implausible.
Transmission control (4)
A general transmission control fault: the control unit has detected a malfunction in the transmission system that is not tied to one specific component. Codes stored at the same time usually point to the actual cause.
Manufacturer-specific code (3)
A manufacturer-specific code that relates to configuration, basic setting or data status rather than to one failed part. It often appears after a repair, a control unit replacement or software work.
Voltage / power supply (1)
The fault concerns the supply voltage of the transmission control unit. If the voltage is too low, the unit cannot reliably drive the solenoids and the pump, and it may switch to emergency mode.
Reading a fault code correctly
A fault code is a starting point, not a diagnosis. These four habits make the reference more useful.
- Confirm the family first. The same code can mean different things on a dry-clutch and a wet-clutch DSG. Match the code to the correct family before reading anything into it.
- Read the evidence level. A code marked "Verified" is well documented. A code marked "Review" is documented but should be confirmed against the vehicle.
- Scan, do not guess. Use a proper diagnostic scan to read the stored codes and freeze-frame data. Hand-held code readers often miss transmission-specific codes.
- Look at the symptoms too. A code plus the symptoms together usually narrow the cause far more than either alone.

Questions about DSG fault codes
What is a DSG fault code?
A DSG fault code is a stored identifier produced by the transmission control unit when it detects a condition outside its expected range. It points to a system or component, not always to a single failed part.
Why does the same code mean different things on different DSGs?
Because the six DSG families differ in clutch type and hydraulic design. A code that relates to accumulator pressure on a DQ200 can relate to a different circuit on a wet-clutch family, so the family always matters.
Can I clear a fault code and keep driving?
Clearing a code does not fix the cause. If the underlying condition remains, the code will return and the transmission may enter limp mode. Clearing codes is a diagnostic step, not a repair.
Are all the codes here confirmed?
No. Each code is marked by evidence level. Codes marked "Verified" are well documented; codes marked "Review" are documented but should be confirmed against the specific vehicle before acting.
Do I need the exact part number as well as the code?
For ordering, yes. A fault code narrows the area, but the correct mechatronic assembly or part is confirmed by the part number, the VIN and the transmission family together.
Have a fault code to check?
Send us the code and the vehicle details and we will confirm the correct unit or part by email.
